These maps utilize total monthly precipitation from the following sources:

National Weather Service Cooperative (COOP) network

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Snow Telemetry (Snotel) stations

National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) Climate Reference Network (CRN) stations

Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS)

The Monthly Precipitation maps are a spatially distributed representation of point data across the state. The units are in inches of precipitation.

The Monthly Percent of Normal maps divide the monthly precipitation by the distributed normal precipitation (from COOP and Snotel only) for the month. It is represented as a percentage of normal.

Water Year (Oct-Sept) Percent of Normal maps track Colorado's precipitation status through the water year by comparing the most current conditions to what is climatically expected starting with the snow accumulation period and extending through spring melt-out into the drier summer months.
